These are the best budget guesthouses/hostels at which I’ve ever stayed:
(they are all clean with comfortable beds)
Argentina:
Marco Polo Inn, Bariloche
The rate includes free (pretty good) dinner (vegetarian option available) and breakfast. I stayed in a 6 people dorm room, which was a huge, very clean, loft room(3 beds on the bottom and 3 on the top floor-single/bunk beds) with its own bathroom.
The beds are made everyday by the maids(!) and has its own light/plug dock. Wifi/computers/fully-equipped kitchen/cable-tv/DVDs available.
con: almost no discount-I stayed 3 weeks and got 1 free night free.
Chile:
Hospedaje Austral, Ancud, Chiloe
(Anibal Pinto 1318)
Cabin-esque single/double rooms with simple breakfast and kitchen is available at request in the owner’s place downstairs. The owners are really lovely(and Principe the dog is quite friendly), and can recommend you good places to visit.
con: a bit removed from the center but it’s only 3 houses down from the bus terminal.
Japan:
Roku Roku(6969 hahaha), Kyoto
SUPER clean, with the best bunk beds EVER, with curtains around the frame to provide maximum privacy and enough space to sit up straight Inside, there’s a folding table attached to the wall, hangers, and (very bright) reading light. There’s a kotatsu (table heater0
in the middle of the room!!! ahh!
There’s a very clean bathroom inside the dorm room(with an electronic bidet omg) and there’s another bathroom in the common space with a bathtub. woooooo.
there was a laptop avaiable with the Internet but I’m not sure if there’s a wifi.
con:um…maybe it was just me but it was extremely hard to find. I was so lost and this nice lady looked for the place with me and it took about 2 hours!
J-Hoppers, Osaka
EXTREMELY clean new hostel with a separate sink/bathroom spaces for convenience(hairdryers available) and well-informed (there’s a messageboard in the common area with the day/week’s events)
There’s a movie room in the basement with a flat screen plasma TV. haha
There’s an extremely clean guesthouse in Varanasi India run by a group of young guys. I think it’s called Shanti guesthouse but there are apparently a lot of them in the area so I’ll check the exact location and post.
